Butterfly and moth brooches from the end of the nineteenth century. The sapphire and diamond example came from a British noble family, whereas the more flamboyant, and slightly later, multi-coloured brooches (bottom), set with opals, emeralds, rubies, sapphires and diamonds, came from the Spanish collection of the 18th Duke of Plasencia.
